On the 7th of July 2022, SeAH Wind marked a significant milestone for the offshore wind industry with the hosting of a groundbreaking ceremony for their new XXXL monopile factory investment. The facility, located on the South Bank at the Teesworks site, promises to play a pivotal role for SeAH Wind as a market leading foundation supplier, supporting the development of offshore wind on a global scale.

The company has begun construction on their 90-acre site, where the main building once fully complete, will stand 40 metres in height, stretch 810 metres in length, and span 200 metres in width. This structure not only signifies SeAH Wind's commitment to advancing offshore wind technologies but also positions the company to play a major role in the development of the industry’s supply chain.

The ceremony was attended by key figures in the industry, demonstrating the facilities importance to the sector. Notable attendees included President & CEO of SeAH Steel Holdings Joo-sung Lee, representatives from major developers such as Duncan Clark from Orsted, and Danielle Lane from Vattenfall, as well as dignitaries such as the Secretary of State, Kwasi Kwarteng and the Mayor of Teesside, Ben Houchen.

SeAH Wind's strategic decision to invest in a facility of this magnitude aligns with fast growing demand at national and global levels for renewable energy sources. As the first ever XXXL monopile foundations manufacturer in the United Kingdom, SeAH Wind plans to export their monopiles with a “Made in the UK” sticker, and in the process create new jobs, and opportunities for the local supply chain.
